DEVELOPING DIGITAL MEDIA GENIUSES
What is a Digital Media Genius?
Mother Of Many’s Developing Digital Media Geniuses is a program for students interested in becoming certified in a range of Apple Inc.’s entertainment industry software. Studies include Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and other Apple digital media programs such as iLife featuring iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband.
Developing Digital Media Geniuses was developed and is directed by Apple Distinguished Educator Ms. Daphne Bradford. Ms. Bradford is also the founder of Mother of Many (M.O.M.), a non-profit organization instrumental in:
- attaining Locke High School’s certification as the first Los Angeles Unified School District campus to become an Apple Authorized Training Center for Education (AATC).
- implementing the Crenshaw High School iLife digital media Certification program, the first of its kind in the Western Region. iLife is Apple’s award winning software program featuring iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, iDVD and iWeb.
- certifying economically disadvantaged inner city students in entertainment industry standard editing applications such as final cut pro and logic pro.
With a growing number of media outlets creating an increasing demand for creative film, video, audio, music and photographic content, career opportunities for the developers of that content are burgeoning. Students with certified creative technical skills are in high demand all over the country and, in fact, around the world.
Sponsored by Mother Of Many, students attend entertainment industry events, award shows as well as many other community and school events to conduct interviews and produce their own entertainment video news reports and video documentaries. Students’ skills in core studies such as English, math and science are key components to a successful finished product. Students who wish to enroll and remain in the program are required to improve and/or maintain high grade point averages in core studies. The primary goal: to provide students with a critical competitive edge needed for ongoing studies and jobs in the creative workplace.
Ogilvy Los Angeles, a worldwide advertising agency with offices in L.A., has created Ogilvy Advantage, to provide Developing Mac Genius students with internships and ongoing access to advertising creative and production professionals.
KNBC 4.4 News Raw, the first major network digital news channel, partnered with Mother Of Many in 2008 and created Raw High. M.O.M. students from Locke, Crenshaw, Dorsey and Hamilton high schools produce and deliver live weekly news segments from the Raw High news desk. Students use digital media skills learned via M.O.M.’s Developing Digital Media Geniuses program.
Developing Digital Media Geniuses relies upon private funding and donations to sustain the program and to expand its reach to more students and a broader base of targeted career industries.
